What: Congressman Gutierrez, local elected officials and hundreds of community leaders will rally to urge President Obama to stop the deportations and separation of families by taking the three following immediate actions:

1. Ensure that the “Secure Communities” program returns to its original intent of deporting criminals.

2. Provide more guidance to Immigration Customs Enforcement for allowing Hardship Waivers

3. Stop the deportation of DREAM eligible students

Note: This rally is the last stop of Cong. Gutierrez’ “Campaign for American Children and Families tour”, which has held packed events in 30 cities since it was launched on March 31.

When: Thursday June 30, 2011

Rally at 6pm

*Media availability with Congressman Luis Gutierrez, State Senator Tony Muñoz, State Representative Toni Berrios, and Alderman Danny Solis following the event.

Where: Teamsters Hall, 300 S. Ashland Ave., Chicago, IL. (parking available at the venue)

WHY: Immigrant advocates have decried the record numbers of deportations under the Obama Administration—nearly 400,000 per year, or 1,100 per day—and the impact of “Secure Communities” and other programs on immigrant families and communities. President Obama can use his executive power to stop deportations of youth eligible for the DREAM Act and parents or spouses of U.S. citizens.
